a northern virginia man staged a violent incident at johns hopkins hospital in baltimore. police say he shot a doctor and then shot and kill his mother and then turned the gun on himself. this morning, that doctors recovering and now the gunman's family says he was likely overcome with grief about his mother's condition. sarah joins us with more on this. >> police say paul warren pardus became so upset when he heard about his mother's condition, he shot the surgeon. the wounded surgeon was shot in the abdomen. pardus barr indicatedded himself in the room with his mother. >> my boss came running in and he told me what happened, that there is a guy running around with a gun. and to stay put. it was carey -- scary knowing that somebody was running around with a gun on a rampage in a place where we're supposed to be protected. >> this morning, johns hopkin is operating as normal. >> pardus lived in south arlington with his mother in this home along south kenmore street. neighbors described him as friendly and quiet. they say he and to be his mother's

think ari has a legitimate point about what you write in college. the republican candidate in virginia for governor went through a scalding campaign because of what he'd written as a student and all that have was sort of revived during that. so he has a fair point this ought to be, both candidates ought to be revived. but my point here is on christine o'donnell, i think the reason why she's now, she's burst into the spotlight as the woman who's probably government the republicans their chance at winning the senate. she is going to certainly contribute to a fear among republicans about crossing lines and working with democrats as mike castle did. voting for cap and trade, as he did, and have that bring him down sends a very big signal that it's going to be extremely hard to govern and form bipartisan majorities no matter who wins in these elections. and finally, this election with her, you know, is probably going to drive or draw a lot of the republican candidates for president, you know this, draw them to the right. we're going to -- mitt romney was described in the financial times tod

there. and then there's the very red state of west virginia. democrats of course have a very, very popular governor running in joe manshun. will they put the money in that they need to win those races. one other thing republicans have to worry about, let's take a look at our map here where the democrats are targeting a few of these republican seats. there are five here that are sitting here. and of course three of them are still seats that democrats are trying to win. you've got missouri. they're spending real money there. they really think robin carnahan can beat, we'll see, not quite sure but it is a red state but it is a red state that robin carnahan very popular, raised a ton of money. kentucky, the first tea party victory was rand paul. democrats still believe that he is too weak to win that seat. we shall see. he's been leading in all the polls. jack conway has yet to be able to take a lead there. the third seat that's sort of sitting there ends up being florida. we're going to close there. take a look at this, what charlie crist said yesterday. he's now the independent, that
